july 4th

Every 4th of July my parents have a big party at the lake house. There are 14 grandchildren to keep the party lively.  When you come for the 4th you can always count on playing baseball, fireworks, marking how much you've grown since the year before on my parents pantry wall, swimming, and a game of greasy watermelon. Greasy watermelon sounds like a game we would play in Alabama right? Well before you judge, I learned how to play it on Cape Cod so it's actually a Yankee game. You slather up a watermelon with crisco, throw it in the lake and two teams attempt to move the watermelon to their goalpost, it's like football in water with a slimy watermelon instead of a ball.  Not sure why but we also had a weather balloon join us this year.  I think my dad found it at a WWII surplus store? It was a very old and entertaining balloon and we played with it so much that it popped after 15 minutes or so...aren't those things suppose to be able to travel to outer space and back?
